Milestones

I cannot believe Zoe is ready to be potty trained. It feels like we just trained Aidan, or rather, Aidan trained himself.

Perhaps it is an indication that we are rather blasē parents, but we simply lack the energy to make our kids do stuff. (Don't get me wrong, A&Z are MADE to be safe, to have manners, and all that, but learning a skill is a different category.)

With Aidan, we had thought that we would teach him, (before we became 'child directed' kinda of parents), and got him into some big boy underpants when he was about 2.5 years old. Let's just say that a huge accident led him back into diapers, and for my faithful readers, that was the day I accidentally laundered, and dried, poop.

Needlessly to say, we put our stuff away for a while. Then, lo and behold, one day, Aidan woke up, said he didn't want diapers anymore, and potty trained himself in a few days.

Now that sweet Zoe is also 2.5, we are not about to repeat the incident of laundering poop. However, she really wants to wear underpants. She wants to wear them over her pants, preferably. She also likes to take off her diaper and sit on the porcelain throne, for a very looooonnnnnnggggg time. So much so, that her teacher at day care suggests that we potty train her. With the upcoming move and all, our thinking is "why add one more thing?" On the other hand, watching her sit for an eternity on the potty is grossly inefficient.

Therefore, two weekends ago, we tried for a few hours. She then marched up to her room, brought a diaper to me, and requested, very earnestly, that I put it on her. (I don't blame her at all, how un-fun is life when all your mother wants to do is take you to the potty? When all she talks about is "Do you want to go pee pee?" When she warns about not peeing on the couch for the ten millionth time.) We then thought perhaps potty training was a long ways off.

On Saturday morning, at 6:55 am, Zoe screamed from her room, "MOMMMMAAAA!!! PEEEEEE!!! POOO!!!!!" I rushed to her room, tried to hush her, "Aidan is sleeping! Be quiet. Let me change you." She pushed past me, marched to the potty, unzipped her sleeper, climbed on the potty, and pooped. For the first time.

Wow. Perhaps my stockpiles of diapers will have to get returned to Costco, and soon, we will be diaper free! =)
