Humoring Myself

Everyday, on our way to school and back home, we pass by this ginormous TV screen off the freeway. Aidan loves looking at it to see what advertisement they are showing, in the recent months, he has really enjoyed looking for Wall-E on it everyday. Recently, the screen is showing Little Mermaid, I suppose Disney is re-releasing it or something. So Aidan wants to see the movie, and he wants me to tell him the story.

So I tell him this version: “There is this mermaid who wants to go on land and explore. She finds this octopus that sells tricks and gives the octopus her voice to buy legs. She would only get her voice back if she manages to get a kiss from the prince in 3 days. She goes on shore, falls in love with this prince, and is about to marry him but the octopus gets really angry. The octopus then changes into this other woman who than sabotages the wedding. The prince and the mermaid find out what is happening and they destroy the octopus. Then they get married.”

What question does a 4.5 year old boy ask?

“Mommy, what weapon do they use to destroy the octopus?”

What answer does a mother who thinks she is funny say?

“They use the lightsaber.”

Aidan is really happy with that answer.
